Another Mountie involved in Dziekanski taser death launches lawsuit

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Claiming RCMP negligence has ruined his career and damaged his health, another Mountie involved in Robert Dziekanski’s Taser death has launched a lawsuit.

Stating he was publicly shamed by the RCMP in days that followed the deadly 2007 incident at YVR, despite claiming he was following his training, Constable Bill Bentley is suing Canada’s Attorney General and the province’s Justice Minister.

In documents filed in BC Supreme Court, Bentley says he has suffered permanent harm, including physical and psychological injury.

Bentley wants compensation, including for loss of past and future income.

This follows a similar suit by Constable Gerry Rundel filed earlier this year.

Both men remain members of the force and have been acquitted of perjury in relation to the Braidwood inquiry into the incident.

Bentley’s claims have not been proven in court.
