CPP DEAL REACHED, PREMIUMS RISE IN 2019
Both Canadian workers and their employers will soon be on the hook for higher contributions to the Canada Pension Plan now that the federal government has an agreement with most of the provinces to revamp the program for the first time in nearly two decades. Only Quebec and Manitoba neglected to endorse the plan.

PM TRUDEAU TO MAKE FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT TO UKRAINE
Justin Trudeau says he will make his first official visit to Ukraine next month. The prime minister says he will make the trip after attending the NATO summit in Poland in early July and travelling to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp to honour the victims of the Holocaust. He made the announcement in Toronto on Monday while speaking to the Canada-Ukraine Business Forum, where the news was greeted with cheers and applause.

CANADIAN HELD IN U.A.E SINCE 2014 RETURNS HOME
A Canadian man who was detained for nearly two years in the United Arab Emirates has returned to Canada. Salim Alaradi arrived at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport early Monday evening, telling family, friends and media upon arrival that he was overwhelmed to be home after the last two years.

CANADA EASES RESTRICTIONS ON GAY BLOOD DONORS
Health Canada is making it easier for gay men to give blood, so long as they have been celibate for one year. Canadian Blood Services and Hema-Quebec will now be allowed to accept blood from men who have had sex with men as recently as one year ago. The move brings Canada in line with a number of other countries, including the United States, Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland and France.

CALGARY LOOKS AT ANOTHER WINTER OLYMPIC BID
Calgary is looking at hosting another Winter Olympics. City council voted Monday to spend up to $5 million on an exploration committee to study a possible bid for the 2026 Winter Games. Calgary was the host city of the 1988 Winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee will name the 2026 host city in 2019.
