BC Place stepping up security, adding mandatory pat downs

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you’re going to the Lions home opener tomorrow, you’re being asked to arrive early.

BC Place is stepping up security this season, which includes mandatory pat downs.

Duncan Blomfield with BC Place says it’s because of what other stadiums are doing around the world.

“BC Place is obviously a world class stadium. We looked at best practices from other industries and other venues, and this is the world we live in at the moment,” says Blomfeild.

Unlike Rogers Arena, you won’t have to walk through a metal detector.

“It’s something that we have considered, it’s something that we would consider for the future, but at this time we won’t be implementing it for the 2016 season.”

The new security procedures have already been in effect for Whitecaps games, this season.
