Travel agents welcome Brexit, say it’s good for Canadian travellers

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Along with the vote to leave the European Union, comes a steep drop in the value of sterling.

The summer is high season for people heading from Canada to Britain according to Claire Newell with Travel Best Bets and she anticipates major savings for travellers.

“Anyone who has got plans to travel there over the next little while can now go…change their Canadian currency into British Pounds and they are going to be saving,” she explains. “For anyone who has a reason to go, whether that be friends or family, sick relatives, or a wedding to attend. I think this won’t hurt their pocketbook quite so much.”

Brad Davies with Virtually There Travel believes the impact of the Brexit vote on English currency couldn’t have come at a better time. “When you are staying at a hotel you can afford a slightly nicer one because your Canadian dollar goes further and if you are heading out for various tours you can go for a more upscale tour.”

“People that were perhaps sitting on the fence wondering if now is a good time to visit the UK, there would not be a better time in my judgment,” he adds.
