Dog involved in Surrey attack put down

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A pit bull that was involved in a violent attack in Surrey earlier this week has been put down. Police and city bylaw officers tracked down the owner yesterday, who agreed to have the animal destroyed.

“While the Surrey RCMP’s investigation remains open, officers have looked at the totality of the circumstances in this file and have deemed that there is insufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges at this time. As a result, no further information will be released,” says Surrey RCMP Sergeant Alanna Dunlop.

On Monday, a 65-year-old woman was attacked by the dog on 120th Street. At the time, police had said the incident was “unprovoked” and the dog was not on a leash.

The woman suffered serious injuries to her arm and has been released from the hospital.

Anyone with more information about this case is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604.599.0502 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
