Proposed relocation of North Vancouver museum heads to public hearing

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People on the North Shore will get a chance to weigh in on plans to move the North Vancouver Museum into a proposed development just north of Lonsdale Quay.
The project heads to a public hearing Monday night.
Polygon’s development proposal calls for a 13 storey building, which would include 16,000 square feet of space for the museum as a community amenity.
This latest plan came about after council rejected the museum’s move into the old Pipe Shop building on the former Wallace Shipyards site.
Museum chair Sanford Osler is hoping for better luck this time. “It’s certainly not a done deal, but we’ll be doing our best to tell our story and hopefully, on balance, the community will think this is a good thing,” he explains.
“We’ve looked at the submission package that was released on Friday and we certainly expect to have a number of supporters out explaining why the museum would be a real asset to North Vancouver.”
“We’ve been studying and looking for 30 years for a new site, so this would be a wonderful conclusion.”
In fact, the museum has been in its current space since 1976, but that was only supposed to be a temporary solution.
The public hearing starts at 6:30pm at North Vancouver City Hall.
