Surrey looks to experts in efforts to strengthen dangerous dog bylaws

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The City of Surrey wants to strengthen its dangerous dog bylaws after a recent pit bull attack left a 65-year-old woman with serious injuries to her arm.

Mayor Linda Hepner says experts on animal behaviour will be talking to staff.

“I expect it will be around licensing and muzzling, and perhaps stiffer penalties. But I’m not going to presuppose that some behavioural experts may come up with as being some innovative solutions to strengthening our bylaw.”

“Our bylaw… is relatively tight already, but I’m anxious to see if there are ways that we can improve it,” she adds.

The pit bull involved in the attack a couple of weekends ago has been put down.
