The Whitecaps fall to the Galaxy 2-0

Carson, CA (NEWS 1130) – The Whitecaps were on the road playing a rare Monday match in the City of Angles. Robbie Keane and Jeff Larentowicz scored, Steven Gerrard assisted both, and the Galaxy beat Vancouver 2-0.

Keane opened the scoring in the 12th minute, taking Gerrard’s feed near the penalty arc and bending a right-footed shot into the top right corner. Keane was in his first MLS action since late Maydue to an international duty with Ireland for the European Championship.

Larentowicz headed home Gerrard’s corner in the 47th minute and the Galaxy held on after Nigel de Jong was sent off in the 74th minute due to a foul.

Brian Rowe had three saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve his fourth shutout of the season and Los Angeles ended a seven-game winless streak.

Vancouver midfielder/forward Kekuta Manneh didn’t dress for the match.

The ‘Caps have dropped to 7-8-3 and are sitting in the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 24 points.
