How confident are you in your BBQ skills?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – While it hasn’t felt like it these last few days, we are smack-dab in the middle of barbeque season. So just how confident are you in your skills with the grill?

A new study finds only 23 per cent of Canadians rate their own grilling skills highly.

There are three big mistakes many grillers make says Jill Amery with urbanmommies.com. “Being too attentive and poking and prodding steaks and their meat with a fork, and that just lets all the juices escape.”

No need for that, just don’t poke your meat while it’s cooking. “People are like ‘I’m going to slather the sauce on my beautiful, expensive steak’, and they end up burning it. Because you should only put your sauces on just before you’re taking it off, otherwise your food will get scorched.”

Leaving it dry, so it sticks to your tongs is another mistake. Make sure to sear it on both sides and then let it sit for at least five minutes after it’s off the grill, it will continue to cook.
