Canada loses to Germany in Olympic women’s soccer semifinal

BELO HORIZONTE, BRAZIL (NEWS 1130) – There will be no shot at Olympic gold for Canada’s women’s soccer team.
Second-ranked Germany defeated No. 10 Canada 2-0 in the semifinals today in Belo Horizonte.
The loss ended Canada’s four-game winning streak at the Olympic tournament.
They move on to face the Olympic hosts for bronze Friday in Sau Paulo.
Melanie Behringer and Sara Daebritz scored for the Germans, who will play No. 6 Sweden for gold at the storied Maracana in Rio.
The Swedes defeated No. 8 Brazil on penalties in the other semifinal.
Germany has a chance at an Olympic soccer double with the men facing Nigeria in Wednesday’s semifinal.
Canada won the bronze medal four years ago in London.
