West Kelowna wildfire evacuation order lifted

WEST KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) – Crews say the Bear Creek wildfire just north of West Kelowna is still at 52 hectares but is now 85 per cent contained. Firefighters spent the night putting out a number of hotspots and there weren’t any major issues reported.

Mounties have also secured the area and continue to keep an eye inside the evacuation zone.

BC Hydro crews spent hours through the night to replace burned poles and have restored power and water service for the private Traders Cove utility is in the process of being fixed.

Westside Road was re-opened at noon and an evacuation order has been lifted for the 105 properties impacted. No homes have been lost since the blaze broke out late Sunday night.
