Reward offered after leg-hold trap left in East Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A group of local animal advocates want to know who would set out leg-hold traps in the middle of East Vancouver.

The Fur-Bearers were contacted after a couple spotted a skunk dragging a trap near East 49th Avenue and Fraser Street Sunday.
Adrian Nelson with the group says it’s lucky someone’s pet wasn’t injured. “Traps are indiscriminate, they don’t know what kind of animal is stuck to it. Obviously this is a smaller trap so it wasn’t a major concern with children but larger traps are.”

He adds they aren’t sure where exactly the trap was set. “Dragging a leg-hold trap on its leg, it’s not going to be able to move very far. It’s got to be somebody in the area and it is a fairly residential area, so somebody is probably putting these out in their backyards.”

The organization is offering a $1,000 reward for information which could catch the person responsible.

Vancouver Police say there is no investigation open at this time.
