Local realtor suspended for using unlicensed website

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A local realtor has been suspended for one year for selling homes through an unlicensed website.

Alban Wang admits he worked with the owner of the Shanghai-based website — Vanfun.com — which specifically targeted foreign buyers. He says he helped more than a dozen people from overseas to purchase properties in Metro Vancouver.

In a consent order posted online by the Real Estate Council of BC, Wang didn’t tell people who used the website that he was using 90 per cent of his commissions in exchange for their business.

Wang, who had been previously disciplined by the council, says he was first approached back in September 2012 and then began taking referrals just a couple of months later.

According to Real Estate Council of BC, Wang won’t be able to get his licence back until this time next year but first he has to pay a $10,000 fine and pay to cover the costs of the investigation.

He will also have to take a course reminding him of expectations when it comes to realtors.
