LANGLEY (NEWS 1130) – A Langley couple are worried about safety in their neighbourhood after a moonlight thief trespassed in the backyard and pinched their plums.
Denny Skoumal and his wife planted their plum tree seven years ago, but this was the first summer it had borne fruit.
The pair were waiting for the fruit to properly ripen when, two weeks ago, as they slept, someone scaled their back fence and picked the tree clean.
“It’s a shocking moment for us. Not only that we lost the plums, but the idea that somebody would come into your back yard, which is enclosed with fences, and clean up,” Skoumal says.
He says neighbours who have cameras have caught people going through backyards.
They reported the theft to police and found evidence someone had scaled their fence, but Skomal thinks they’ll have to wait another year before they get to taste the fruit.
