NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — If you get stuck or lost in the backcountry you’ll likely have to do a lot of trudging on foot to get out.
North Shore Rescue team leader Mike Danks says they are not in the business of picking people up in their helicopters just because they make a phone call.
“We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure that we hike people out when we can.”
On Saturday, at around 5 p.m., NSR was called to Crown Mountain to rescue a trio of hikers.
“Each call is unique and based on the terrain that these three got themselves into it was much better to evacuate them by air,” Danks says.
“Our original plan was to insert a couple members and hike the back out but based on the terrain that they were in, it was easier to insert a couple members, they made their way to them and brought them to the safe area where they could be evacuated by air.”
This summer has been one of the busiest seasons for North Shore Rescue crews to date.
