West Van bus drivers vote in favour of strike

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – West Vancouver’s Blue Bus drivers and mechanics have voted 100% in favour of a strike.

A 72-hour strike noticed is expected to be issued tomorrow.

Bill Tieleman speaks for Amalgamated Transit Union Local 134.

“West Vancouver is demanding some concessions on working conditions and benefits. We’re also trying to make sure we retain our mechanics who have a very high turn over rate because it’s a very in-demand profession,” says Tieleman.

Tieleman says even with the long weekend ahead, the union is prepared to meet with West Vancouver anytime to discuss a new contract.
