KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – A helicopter crash near Kamloops has sent one man to hospital with significant injuries.

Bill Yearwood with the Transportation Safety Board says the chopper was in the hills near Eagle Creek at around 3 p.m. when something went wrong. “It was returning to base camp and it was an apparent malfunction. The helicopter crashed short in the trees just short of a helipad.”

Yearwood says the man is lucky to be alive. “The photographs we have of the wreckage is that it is quite extensive and the aircraft is pretty much a write-off. It is substantially damaged.”

He adds the TSB is still investigating to find what malfunctioned. He says the pilot was the only one on board and is expected to survive.
