The Whitecaps through to Champions League quarter-finals

KANSAS CITY, KS (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Whitecaps made history at Children’s Mercy Park, defeating Sporting Kansas City 2-1 to secure their first CONCACAF Champions League quarter-final berth.

It wasn’t an easy task, but a youngster was clutch when needed.

Fifteen-year-old Alphonso Davies scored the winner in the third minute of stoppage time, capping off a long night that included a two hour weather delay in the first half.

He also helped set up Erik Hurtado’s second goal in as many matches in the 41st minute.

The Whitecaps defeated KC 3-0 at BC Place last month in their first CONCACAF match against their Major League Soccer rivals.

The quarterfinals will begin in February.
