WASHINGTON (NEWS 1130) – A gunman who fatally shot five people at a Washington state mall initially entered the shopping centre without a weapon according to authorities, but 10 minutes later, went inside Macy’s with a rifle and opened fire.
Four women and one man were killed at the Cascade Mall on Friday evening in Burlington. The female victims’ ages ranged from teens to seniors and no identifications have been released.
Mount Vernon Police Lt. Chris Cammock said Saturday the weapon was recovered from the scene. He described it as a “hunting-type” rifle.
Cammock says officers are reconstructing the entire scene, scanning for evidence. The suspect has not yet been identified and police are appealing to the community for help.
More than 200 officers from more than two dozen agencies responded to the mall following the shooting.
The gunman remains at large.
