Royal couple continues to cause buzz in BC

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge touched down on a float plane and after meeting a welcome committee led by Mayor Gregor Robertson, walked through a throng of fans.

Two women told NEWS 1130 they arrived bright and early to meet the pair but were most smitten by Kate and her Alexander McQueen dress.

“Tears came, we were crying. It was an unreal moment that we never thought would ever happen, to meet the Royal Family,” explains one. “I couldn’t even talk,” adds the other.

The couple’s first stop was to Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, where they met several mothers and their children. They are part of a unique program at Sheway for women with children or who are pregnant and also have drug and alcohol addictions.

Allison Wright, a mother of two children, told the royals her story with a small group of moms over tea.

The organization helps marginalized pregnant women and mothers living in one of Canada’s poorest neighbourhoods.

The couple toured the facility, sat down to tea and scones and even got comfortable in the play area while toddlers and infants. A staff member introduced the couple to a five-year-old girl, who gave them each teddy bears.

Will and Kate will also be dropping by the Immigrant Services Society in East Vancouver and the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station.

But bad news for some Royal watchers – their two children are not with them as they stayed behind in Victoria.
