NANAIMO, B.C. – A British Columbia Supreme Court jury in Nanaimo has found a man guilty of two counts each of first-degree murder and attempted murder in a shooting at a Vancouver Island sawmill two years ago.
Kevin Addison used a sawed-off shotgun to kill two former co-workers and injure two others at the Western Forest Products facility in Nanaimo on April 30, 2014.
The Crown had argued Addison was motivated by revenge to carry out the attack after Western Forest Products laid him off in 2008 and didn’t rehire him two years later.
Addison’s defence lawyer said during the trial that his client should be found guilty of manslaughter instead because he didn’t intend to kill anyone.
The jury began deliberating yesterday afternoon after the judge reviewed the arguments made over the course of the three-week trial.
