VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The next winner in our Worst Commute contest leaves the house extremely early just to get to work on time.
Take a look at what Shantell Puckey has to do.

“My commute starts in the country side where I have to leave my house at 4 a.m. I have to walk down a country road with hardly any street lights for just under two kilometres. I wait for the first bus (that may or may not show up) that might be really early or a little late, so I have to be there at least 20 minutes early to make sure I catch it.”

Then she takes the first bus to Langley Centre. “From there I wait for another bus to take me to King George Skytrain Station. I take the train from there to the 22nd Street SkyTrain Station where I get on the third bus. The third bus ride is only about 10 minutes long. If my first bus actually shows up I am pretty early for work. I usually get there for 6:15 a.m. or 6:30 a.m. But if I miss that first bus or if the driver is sick and just doesn’t show the next bus is an hour later which in turn makes me late for work.”

She says she runs into some interesting things that early in the day. “In my morning commute I have encountered incredible wind and rain storms, flying branches, packs of coyotes, rabbits, raccoons, bats and owls. It is a long trip and sometimes scary but such is life!”

Shantell’s commuting pain earns her $500 from our partners at Jim Pattison Volkswagen Surrey.
