Small Business Saturday wants you to shop local

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Shop small and make a big a difference.

Mom and pop shops around the Lower Mainland are taking part in Small Business Saturday.

You’re being asked to go the extra mile today and drop by those local stores that dot the neighborhoods around Metro Vancouver.

Richard Truscott with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says it’s a challenging time for smaller shops.

“Especially in bigger places like Vancouver where affordability is an issue for all of us but it’s also an issue for small businesses. Anything we can do to go out there and shop small and support those local entrepreneurs that’s good for the economy which is good for the province and the country.”

He adds you’re not just helping yourself by buying something from a local store, with small businesses employing more than 70 per cent of the private sector labour force and creating the bulk of new jobs across Canada.
