Surrey rally targets Trump’s Hindu supporters abroad

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Donald Trump’s US Presidential campaign has drawn support from various Hindu organizations in India as well as the United States.

In response, the Metro Vancouver-based publication Radical Desi organized an anti-Trump rally in Surrey, speaking out against the Republican candidate’s policies, and the Hindu groups who support them.

“There are some Hindu groups who organized prayers for Donald Trump in New Delhi,” says Radical Desi director Gurpreet Singh, “they also celebrated his birthday.”

Singh explains that Trump’s tough rhetoric on Pakistan and Muslim extremists is appealing to right-wing groups within India. That support, plus an endorsement from the US-based Republican Hindu Coalition are what prompted today’s rally.

“We wanted to show our opposition to Donald Trump and his racist and sexist ideas,” he says. “We are trying to oppose both Donald Trump and his supporters within the Hindu community.”

The rally, planned for 5 p.m. in Holland Park, is expected to draw out up to 100 people.
