Confusion hampers passengers as TransLink tweaks SkyTrain routes

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – More than a 250,000 passengers are navigating the new routes and schedules for the SkyTrain on the first workday since big changes took place over the weekend, but not everyone is faring well.

People were warned about the changes a few weeks ago and another reminder was issued on Friday, but still — some people appear to be struggling to get where they need to go.

At each station there are signs, maps, repeated announcements and extra staff on hand to direct people, but some are still lost. The advice from TransLink staff is to double-check the signs above before hopping on a train.

The transit authority is re-jigging a number of the routes in preparation of the Evergreen Line which is set to open sometime before Christmas of this year.

The Expo Line now has two branches: one that will from Waterfront Station to King George like it currently does, the other will go to Production Way-University in Burnaby which is one of the new transfer points.

The Millennium Line will only operate between VCC-Clark Station in Vancouver and Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby, which will eventually be a transfer hub for the Evergreen Line. When that line is operational, TransLink says the Millennium Line will run between VCC-Clark to Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station in Coquitlam without having to transfer.
