National poppy campaign gets underway

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – You’re about to start seeing a lot of people wearing poppies as cadets, veterans, and legion members with trays of poppies take to street corners and malls. The nation’s annual campaign kicks off across the country leading up to Remembrance Day.

Jim Howard with the Vancouver Poppy Fund says you’ll also be getting an appeal for donations in the mail.

He acknowledges many are concerned about making ends meet in the city does create some challenges — and getting the message out about the campaign is key and that includes talking about where the money goes. “It is there for us to use to assist our veterans, our serving members, their families and their dependents.”

Howard adds any donation can really go a long way. “We’ll have ladies come in whose husbands were World War II or a Korea vet but he has passed and they need assistance.”

The campaign lasts right up until November 11th.
