Liberal Party convention in Vancouver this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The BC Liberals are holding its party convention this weekend in Vancouver with Christy Clark’s keynote speech highlighting the event tomorrow.

A political expert says conventions like this matter.

It will be more ‘rah rah’ than policy-driven talk according to David Moscrop with UBC.

He expects a few topics are bound to come up during the various speeches.

“BC’s economy is pretty strong so the Liberals will definitely be highlighting their economic successes,” says Moscrop. “Pipeline politics will also come up. Pipeline politics always come up.”

He says the Liberals will probably want to keep out of the spotlight during this conference because any big news would probably mean bad news.

“This far out from the election, the party will probably be playing their cards pretty close to the vest. Tactically you don’t want to give up too much and make yourself a target.”
