Canucks collapse in the third, lose their ninth straight game

BROOKLYN, NY (NEWS 1130) – Loui Eriksson’s offensive struggles have been well documented since joining the Canucks, but it was his defensive miscue that allowed Cal Clutterbuck to score the winning goal in the Islanders 4-2 win.

With the game tied up at two just over nine minutes into the third, Johnny Boychuck’s point shot was stopped by Vancouver goaltender Ryan Miller. Erikkson was out of position on the rebound and Clutterbuck backhanded it in.

Maple Ridge’s Andrew Ladd gave New York the insurance goal just over 90 seconds later with his first of the season.

Daniel Sedin opened the scoring early in the first, giving Vancouver its first lead in a game since October 20th against Buffalo. Marcus Granlund had the other Canucks goal on a power play in the second. Ryan Miller made 28 saves and fell to 1-6-0 on the season.

The Canucks have lost nine straight games and will stay in New York to take on the Rangers and former coach Alain Vigneault tomorrow.
