Man in custody following targeted homicide in New Westminster

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) – One man has been taken into custody after a fight resulted in the death of another man in New Westminster early this morning.

At about 3:40 a.m., police were called to the area of 5th Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets where paramedics were helping an injured man. He died due to his injuries and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in.

IHIT says it’s working with police in the Royal City to gather evidence and to figure out a motive. “From the evidence gathered so far, this homicide does not appear to be random,” says New Westminster Police Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott.
