Lions, Bombers play for a trip to Calgary at BC Place

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – So much has been made about Andrew Harris on the other side of the ball. The Canadian product left after last season in free agency to sign with the Bombers, and his ex-teammates know how important he still is.

“He’s a key cog in what they do.” Lions linebacker Solomon Elimimian said yesterday after the team’s walkthrough.

“They do a good job of moving him around in the run game and the pass game. They’re very creative in how they get him the ball. We have to key him, and know where he’s at.”

The Lions have had their own success at running back this season with the platoon situation between Jeremiah Johnson, and Anthony Allen. Wally Buono knew it was time to make a move with Harris after last year.

“There’s a time and a place for all of us.” Buono said on Saturday.

“Andrew, at the end of the year was a free agent. It was probably good for him to move on, just like it was good for us to move on.”

As for the Lions side of the ball, they know it won’t be easy with the Bombers defense.

“We can’t force the ball.” quarterback Jonathon Jennings said Saturday.

“Not forcing the ball into tight windows, making sure I’m seeing what they’re in on the defensive side of the football. You can’t take too many risks.”

The Lions took a few too many risks in turning the ball over seven times to the Bombers on October 14th – a loss at BC Place. Winnipeg led the league in interceptions this season with 30 – well ahead of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, who were second in that category with 17 on the season.

This season marks the 20th consecutive in which the Lions have qualified for the Grey Cup Playoffs. It’s the first time since 2012 that a playoff game has been held at BC Place.
