Yule Duel returns to Vancouver for second year

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The largest outdoor caroling competition in Vancouver returns to Gastown next month.

It will be anything but a Silent Night on December 1st when the second annual Yule Duel gets going.

And this year will bigger and better says Leanore Sali with the Gastown Business Improvement Society, which organizes the event.

“Last year was the first year so we didn’t quite know how it would fit. We’re going to try and expand a little bit more down Powell St and a little bit more own Carrall Street,” shares Sali.

“It’s a very rich choral community. There are some incredible voices out there and when are you going to get an opportunity to come and listen to this many choirs in a street ambiance which is really great.”

Eleven choirs will battle it out between six and 9 p.m., with the celebrity judges narrowing the field to two.

“Then those choirs will go on stage and perform and the judges pick. And then the people get a chance to vote because they go around and listen to the choirs,” explains Sali.

“So the audience sort of rolls from team to team or caroling group to caroling group to the main stage where they (choirs) sing-off.”

All proceeds to go May’s Place.
