Celebrations will welcome riders to new Evergreen Line stations

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) — There will be some celebrating in the Tri-Cities later this week when the long-awaited Evergreen Line extension opens to the public for the first time.

Chris Bryan, a spokesperson for TransLink, says on Friday riders will see celebrations at every station from Lougheed Town Centre to the far-reaching Lafarge Lake-Douglas station.

“At about 12 p.m. on Friday, the big doors outside the stations will open up and people will be able to hop on the Evergreen extension for the first time.”

A community party is planned for Coquitlam Central station from 10:30 am to 7:30 pm.

“There will be entertainment, and crafts, kid’s games, and food,” Bryan says.

Celebrations at other stops along the Evergreen Line expansion will run from 4 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be an exciting day I think for the people in the Tri-Cities. They’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.”

The new line intends to connect passengers from Coquitlam City Centre, through Port Moody, to Lougheed Town Centre in approximately 15 minutes.

Adjustments to bus routes are also being made and will come into effect on December 19th.

Specific adjustments can be found by searching for your specific route with TransLink’s Trip Planner.
