Fundraiser for Port Moody kids after tumultuous year

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Today you can get a haircut and help some kids that went through a tumultuous year.

One salon is raising money for six kids who’s father is in custody charged with lighting their home on fire and killing their mother.

These kids were witness to an unthinkable tragedy.

Liz Abreu is a mother herself and says she couldn’t imagine what these kids are going through.

So she started to organize this cutathon. She says the money raised will go towards helping with the basics like groceries.

“They are now on their own. They’re between the ages of five and 18. And [I just want to] put a smile on those children’s faces,” says Abreu.

She says her motivations were simple.

“I’m obsessed with them, and I think it’s because I’m a mother of two kids. It’s really hard to think of, not only did they lose their house, but they lost their dad who’s in jail and they’ve lost their mother.”

The cutathon starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. at Granville Street near 8th Ave.
