Can the new Evergreen Line handle the snow?

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – With the opening ceremonies and celebrations out of the way, it’s time to find out if TransLink‘s new Evergreen Line is ready to deliver.

Snow has been falling heavily in the Tri-Cities for much of the overnight hours and early morning and this could be putting the three-day old transit line to the test. TransLink says it has been dealing with safety alarm issues at several stations on both the Millennium and Expo lines due the snow, however, the Canada Line is unaffected.

This morning trains had been running smoothly at Coquitlam Central Station but with slick roads and dicey driving conditions, this should prove to be a real test for the new line as it deals with its first weekday commute.

The provincial government claims the line is on budget at $1.43 billion and it’s expected to carry 70,000 passengers daily by 2021. The 11-kilometre line promises to carry people from the Tri-Cities to Burnaby in about 15 minutes which will connect passengers to the Millennium Line to get to Downtown Vancouver.
