Canucks comeback attempt falls short in loss to Panthers

SUNRISE, FL (NEWS 1130) – The Canucks showed some fight late, but their comeback attempt came up just short in a 4-2 loss to the Panthers.

Florida got off to a great start when Aleksander Barkov opened the scoring less than two-and-a-half minutes in putting a rebound past Vancover goalie Jacob Markstrom.

Derek Mckenzie doubled the Panthers lead midway through the second, and it looked like Aaron Ekblad put the game out of reach just over a minute into the third when he scored on a backhander from in close.

Jack Skille gave the Canucks some life with his third goal in the last two games, cutting the Florida lead to two. Then, less than four minutes later, Daniel Sedin made it a one goal game when he tipped in a Troy Stecher point shot with the man advantage, but that was as close as Vancouver would get.

Vincent Trocheck scored an empty-netter with less than a minute to go to ice it.

Former Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo made 35 saves for the win.

Some good news for Vancouver before this one. Jannik Hansen re-joined the team after missing the last five weeks with a back injury. He is expected to be in the lineup when Vancouver wraps up its five game road trip tomorrow afternoon in Washington.
