Salvation Army Christmas donations down from last year

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – They’re a very familiar sight this time during the holiday season — red pails and volunteers ringing bells encouraging you to give.

But it seems this year, fewer people are choosing to drop a couple bucks into the Salvation Army kettles.

She’s not sure why, but Patricia Cuff with the BC Division says donations are down a bit compared to last year.

The weather may be a factor, but she can’t say for sure what’s behind it.

“So far we’re at 1.3 million out of a goal of four-million, and we have twelve days left of the campaign. We end on December 24th.”

While that might sound discouraging, Cuff doesn’t seem too concerned.

“I know that BC’s a very generous place, so I hope to be able to meet our goal of four-million.”

She says they’ve been able to meet their target each year, so she anticipates that will happen again.
