Sentence handed down in deadly Burnaby hit and run

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The man who admitted he was the driver involved in the hit and run crash which took the life of a 25-year-old woman in Burnaby back in March will spend time behind bars.
Ibrahim Ali has been handed a four-and-a-half year sentence minus time served and a ten-year driving ban. The victim’s family feels the sentence handed down in Vancouver Provincial Court is a fair one.
Emily Sheane had been heading home from her waitressing job in Vancouver on March 9th when an SUV ran a red light and T-boned her car at Willingdon and Moscrop. She was instantly killed and the driver of the SUV left the scene.
Ali was arrested in Creston days later. He was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and leaving the scene of an accident where a death occurred. Ali pleaded guilty to both charges in October.
Emily’s mother Judy Sheane isn’t convinced Ali feels remorse. “He never showed remorse before and all of a sudden he does, but we’ll see. How he continues his life will determine whether he means it or not.”
Judy Sheane says she feels the sentence is fair.

At the time, Burnaby RCMP had said they spoke with witnesses who claimed to have seen a woman exit the passenger side of the car and run away.
Ali is a known UN gang associated with a long criminal record.
