Celebs react as actress Carrie Fisher dies after massive heart attack

LOS ANGELES (NEWS 1130) – Actress Carrie Fisher, probably best known for her role in Star Wars as Princess Leia, has passed away at the age of 60.

She suffered a massive heart attack last Friday on board a flight and was quickly rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Soon after doctors upgraded her condition to stable, however she passed away this morning.

Family spokesman Simon Halls released a statement on behalf of her daughter Billie Lourd. “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 a.m.” says the statement. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher had been flying from London to Los Angeles on Friday when she went into cardiac arrest. She had been on a publicity tour for her new book, ‘The Princess Diarist.’ She wrote about having an affair with co-star Harrison Ford while shooting the original ‘Star Wars’ movies.

Fisher battled substance abuse throughout her life. In 2013, she was hospitalized for complications from bipolar disorder.

She is the daughter of showbiz icon Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher.
