Fresh snowfall warning issued for Metro Vancouver after day of snow

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Hours after heavy snow began accumulating on roads and highways across the Lower Mainland, Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford.
Roughly five centimetres of wet snow is expected before the storm system passes through by mid-evening.
“Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations,” reads the alert, issued at 3:58 p.m. “Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate.”
For their part, Anne Drennan with TransLink says they are ready for any snow build-up, though “you can expect probably some delays, particularly if your route includes an incline or a hill.”
As with past years, transit is free during New Years Eve from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Extra buses, trains and SeaBuses will run an extra hour for those ringing in the new year.
“We’re in constant contact with the city and the municipalities all throughout the system… but sometimes it’s pretty tough for them to keep up,” Drennan adds.
She advises those out partying tonight to carry along some weather-appropriate footwear along with their heels and dancing shoes.
