ICBC claim calls spiked in December thanks to snowy weather

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The last month of 2016 was a busy one for the province’s auto insurance company.

ICBC received more than 100,000 claims calls — a 16 per cent spike over December 2015.

The company’s Sam Corea says the bulk of those calls, nearly 74,000, came from the Lower Mainland where the bulk of the vehicles in BC are located.

“We had spikes in calls December 5th, the 12th, the 19th, and the 26th, and those were all Mondays, and we had snow days on all those days,” he says.

Corea adds that not every call necessarily results in a new claim.
