Skating allowed on Trout Lake

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – For the first time in over a decade, people are being officially allowed to do this at one park in Vancouver.

Go skating on a city lake.

The Vancouver Park Board says the ice on Trout Lake is thick enough for skating after another cold snap.

Park Board Chair Michael Wiebe says there won’t be a Zamboni to smooth the ice, but there will be life-guards.

“This is one of the first times they’ll be allowing people to go on it, they won’t be stopping people.”

He says it’s so different to be skating around and getting that fresh air.

“People of all ages with bushes, birds and dogs around – it’s just such a different experience.”

Wiebe says it’s nice, wide and open adding the ice is really clean and should be pretty decent to skate on.

“Come make some memories and bring your kids out. They’re just going to enjoy it so much.”

This is the only body of water given the skating go-ahead by the park board so far although people are already skating at Vanier Park.

No word if you’ll be allowed to rent skates at nearby Trout Lake Community Centre and bring them down to the lake.

Skating at Trout Lake and other parks in the city used to happen almost every winter in Vancouver.

Arthur served as the Governor General of Canada from 1911 to 1916.
