Idea of a gondola at Mount Seymour being floated

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s something you’ve probably had to deal with before if you’ve headed up to Mount Seymour. We’re referring to the jammed parking lots, slick roads and overall problems getting up the mountain.

After BC Parks recently asked you about access to the site, some are wondering whether it’s time for a gondola to get people up there.
It was a small survey asking whether you would like to see better access to the mountain. “We’ve seen a unique increase if not an explosion in our back-country access through snowshoeing and back-country skiing,” says the mountain’s General Manager Eddie Wood.

“I think this is an excellent idea. Mount Seymour Provincial Park has enjoyed tremendous growth in visits over the last number of years, specifically during the wintertime.”

He also addressed the idea of a gondola. “I think it is a possibility, but I think at this early stage, it’s really hard to say what the right option would be. It’s important to go through and evaluate what sort of capacities in this region can be handled.”

Wood understands people are frustrated by ongoing delays and he’s just happy BC Parks is considering taking action.
