Like taxes? The CRA needs your help!

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – If you’re one of those people who likes doing taxes, have we found an opportunity for you!

The CRA is looking for volunteers to help those of us who make this face when the T4s are mailed out:

It’s the 46th year of The Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).

“The program relies on the commitment of community organizations to host tax clinics, and their volunteers who, as members of the community, have volunteered their time and effort to help others,” CRA CVITP Coordinator Zubie Vuurens says in a release.

“Helping members of your community prepare and file their tax returns, ensures these individuals receive the benefits and credits they’re entitled to without interruptions.”

The organization is calling on businesses, community groups and any other tax-savvy people to host tax preparation clinics and prepare tax returns. Volunteers must have a basic understanding of income tax.

The CRA offers free training and software to volunteers and training starts this month.

Last year, 2,391 volunteers and 345 community organizations in BC and Yukon helped 113,309 people prepare and file their returns.
