TORONTO, ON. (NEWS 1130) – It’s official: the man dubbed Canada’s Donald Trump wants to be prime minister.

After a lot of speculation and rumours businessman Kevin O’Leary has announced he is officially in the running to replace Stephen Harper as the leader of the federal Conservative Party. He made the announcement this morning in a video posted to his Facebook page.

“I listened to you. Thank you. The 40,000 of you that went to the website and encouraged me to do it, that’s why I’m doing it. What an opportunity we have in this country — limitless boundaries and such opportunity to turn it around.”

O’Leary says he’s excited because the potential of this country is really immense, adding that it feels mismanaged.

He’s best known as a former cast member of the Canadian reality show “Dragon’s Den” and most recently on ABC TV’s “Shark Tank.”

The next federal election is set to happen on October 21st, 2019.
