Henrik reaches 1,000 points in Canucks victory over Panthers

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Henrik Sedin hit yet another milestone in his storied career, and he did it in style.

Sedin scored 5:50 in the second period in the Canucks 2-1 win over Roberto Luongo and the Florida Panthers becoming the 85th player in NHL history to record 1,000 career points and the first in franchise history.

Coming in on a 2-on-1 with brother Daniel, the Canucks Captain took a pass and went backhand beating his former teammate setting off a standing ovation from the fans at Rogers Arena.

Henrik was happy with how he got it.

“Burr (Burrows) told me to make it nice when it happened. Just a good rush overall, a good breakout. It was nice to see the helpers coming from Danny and Eddie (Edler) too. Good friends and teammates for a long time, so that was nice.”

Henrik’s goal tied it up at one, and in the third period, Vancouver got some offence from an unexpected source. Defenceman Luca Sbisa’s wrist shot beat Luongo, putting the Canucks in front 3:07 into the final period.

The Canucks have collected at least a point in 11 of their last 12 games and are sitting a point out of the second wild card spot in the western conference.

Up next for Vancouver, a tough test in Chicago against the Blackhawks on Sunday.
