Vancouverites join worldwide Women’s March

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Tens of thousands of people marched in Vancouver to support women and protest the inauguration of Donald Trump.

Samantha Monckton is one of the organizers of Vancouver’s leg of the Women’s March on Washington.

She says the Donald Trump campaign was filled with attacks on women’s rights and this is a chance for the people of the world to say that is not okay.

“This is a march on women’s rights, and that women’s rights are human rights,” says Monckton, who says news of the rally spread like wildfire.

She believes it’s time for women to speak up. She even uses one of the campaign slogans to hammer home her point.

“I think it’s one of the wonderful parts when we take the power back when we’re nasty women.”

There will also be uniquely knitted hats aimed at sending a message.

“I even have a friend of mine, he put the hat on and took a picture and it’s quite delightful to see even our men are in solidarity with this.”

Millions of others joined marches worldwide.
