Canucks kick off road trip in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL (NEWS 1130) – The Vancouver Canucks take to the road with a week to go before the All-Star break, beginning with a trip to Chicago to face the Blackhawks. (4:30pm, SNET)

The Canucks remain in contention for a wild card spot in the western conference, sitting one point behind the Calgary Flames for the final position through 47 games.
Vancouver is 6-1-3 in its last ten games, but much has been made of the club’s record away from Rogers Arena. The Canucks have gone just 5-13-3 on the road. Like Vancouver, the Blackhawks have piled up 17 wins on home ice this season at the United Center.

Vancouver centre Bo Horvat says he’s ready to go after taking a Nikita Tryamkin point shot off the head the other night during a win over the Florida Panthers.

“It’s a little sore.” Horvat said from Chicago this morning.

“We’ve been working on getting a little bit bigger of a helmet for my head, if that’s possible, and give my head a little bit more room to maneuver, but I’m good to go for tonight.”

Horvat required stitches on the back of his head, but did say on Sunday morning that he passed all concussion protocol, eliminating any of those concerns.

It will be interesting to see how Horvat is deployed against Chicago, who still boast one of the better forward groups in the league. While ‘Hawks captain Jonathan Toews has had an up and down season to this point, the dynamic duo of Patrick Kane and Artemi Panarin will be top of mind for the Canucks defensively. The two have combined for 31 goals and 90 points thus far, while Artem Anisimov has chipped in 18 goals.

Ryan Miller will get the start in goal for the Canucks. The road trip continues Wednesday night in Colorado against the Avalanche.
