BELLINGHAM, Washington – Police have located a mother and her nine-year-old daughter wanted in last night’s parental abduction in New Westminster.
Bellingham Police now say they are at a church in that city, speaking with the pair. Earlier today their car was spotted at a motel parking lot.
New Westminster police say Makayla Estrada-Weber had a custody visit with her mother Wilma Estrada yesterday.
Police say they believe the 48-year-old mother then took her daughter, violating a court order, and crossed the border into the US.
Officers south of the border say they are ‘playing the paperwork game’ and dealing with a ‘jurisdictional nightmare’, trying to get the appropriate departments both in Canada and the US to sign off and okay the arrest of Estrada.
