Vancouver Trump Tower developer sues contractor

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The developer behind Vancouver’s Trump International Tower and Hotel is suing its contractors saying shoddy construction and management have delayed the project.

Court documents show Holborn Developments (West Georgia) Ltd. filed a notice of civil claim in BC Supreme Court on January 17th with a laundry list of complaints against Urban One Construction Management Inc.

The claim included the company’s failure to make a proper project schedule, to supervise the work, and to keep the developer up to speed on the construction timeline and delays.

It also alleges the contractor didn’t have a proper quality control system or security, approved sub-par work and failed to ensure appliances were in good condition and properly connected.

The luxury hotel and condominium building was supposed to open in the summer, but construction has pushed back the opening date twice.

Holborn is asking for unspecific damages for breach of contract, negligence, and construction delays.

The allegations have not been proven or tested in court.

In a written statement, Urban one says it  “stands behind the quality of our services, reputation and people. There is no substance or merit behind the allegations identified in the lawsuit filed by Holborn Developments (West Georgia) Ltd. and we intend to vigorously defend against these claims.”
