SURREY (NEWS 1130) – Few details are being released after a targeted shooting in Surrey last night — the third homicide on the Lower Mainland since the beginning of the year.
Police say around 9:15 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the area of 96th Avenue and Prince Charles Boulevard in Whalley after neighbours reported hearing several gunshots. When members arrived they found the victim who had been shot in a car that had crashed into the sign of a McDonald’s.
One woman who lives across the street says she heard several loud bangs while she was in her bedroom. “This is not a movie anymore. We only see this in the movies, now it’s real action.”
However, she’s taking it all in stride. “Surrey is safe, this happens everywhere. It’s safer than the USA for sure.”
Police have identified the victim as 22-year-old Karanpartap Wariach. No one has been arrested.
Investigators spent the night at the scene collecting forensic evidence and interviewing anyone who may have seen anything.
